01
The project
This was Signal Festival's very first experiment with augmented reality. The idea was to let art come alive in the streets of Prague through the screen of your phone, even in broad daylight.
02
My role
As the lead UX designer, I started with research and competitor benchmarking. From there I moved through paper sketches and layout tests to find the smoothest possible flow.

Key UX challenges
Location-based AR
Every artwork is tied to a specific place in Prague and unlocks when you scan its Signal marker on site.
Edge cases
People walking between exhibitions with the app still open, and GPS lag in the middle of the city.
Onboarding
A short slideshow tutorial for first-time users, validated through user testing.
Onboarding
Four slides explain what you will see, how it works, how to share it and when to put your headphones on.

What will you see?
How does it work?

Enhancing the experience
Sound and music
Every piece has its own sound. The app tells you when to put your headphones on and reminds you to stay aware of your surroundings.
Audio feedback
Subtle sounds while you scan a marker let you know the app is calibrating the 3D scene.
In the app
Clear, calm states for the moments when the app needs a little time or a little attention.

Key takeaway
Cutting-edge technology has to be balanced with clear onboarding, safety and the technical edge cases of the real world.
